Chaudhary Nisar's Wife and Children are US Nationals: Wikileaks
KARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s leader of the opposition in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan assured the US in 2008 that he and his party were pro-American, according to a US embassy cable released by WikiLeaks.
“Saying that his wife and children are in fact Americans, Nisar did admit that he went to the US Embassy in London to renew his daughter’s passport because he wanted to avoid being seen at the US Embassy in Islamabad.”
More telling, however, is Khan’s stance on US military action within Pakistan, and how the PML-N would act to remain “publicly credible”.
Nisar reportedly avoided saying that the PML-N opposed either air attacks or US ground action, contrary to its reaction over the May 2011 raid in Abbottabad by a US Navy SEALs team which killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
“What he did say was that the PML-N would have to criticise the Government of Pakistan for allowing US action. Otherwise, said Nisar, the party would have no credibility with the people.”
Nisar said that US policy needed to be more transparent as “confusion bred unhelpful conspiracy theories”. He also told US diplomats that former president Pervez Musharraf was seen as too pro-US and so was “tainted in Pakistani eyes”.
The release of the US embassy and consulate cables in Pakistan has also highlighted how various politicians have lobbied American diplomats for support. From Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of his own faction of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) to former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi to the late former Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto, every major politician in Pakistan has looked to the diplomats for help.

Shoe fight in Rajasthan assembly
Ugly scenes were witnessed in Rajasthan assembly on Monday when an opposition BJP MLA hurled a sandal towards Congress members and a ruling party lawmaker retaliated by brandishing his shoe following a heated exchange between two legislators. The footwear, however, did not hit anyone.
The incident occcured when Congress MLA Raghu Sharma interrupted BJP MLA Pramila Kundara while she was speaking in the house during the zero hour.
Kundara alleged that Sharma had illegally transferred a land of a water body in his wife's name near Chaksu. When Raghu made some comments against Kundara, angry BJP MLAs stormed the Well. In the ruckus, a sandal was hurled towards the Congress MLAs from among the opposition members and it fell near the officers' gallary.
Raghu retaliated by bradishing his shoe at the opposition following which the House was adjourned for half an hour.
When a securityman took the sandal in his possession, Congress MLA Pratap Singh took it and went to the chamber of the Speaker.
It is not clear who hurled the sandal.
Kundara alleged that Raghu made indecent remarks against her and demanded an apology.
When the House reassembled, Speaker Surendra Jadawat was once again forced to adjourn it for another 30 minutes.
BJP MLA Bhawani Singh Rajawat said it was an unfortunate incident.
"When Pramila Kunada was speaking in the House, Raghu Sharma made some unacceptable comments. The comments were unparliamnetary so we went to the Well and demanded that the Speaker expunge the comments. Meanwhile, the sandal was hurled by a member," told reporters outside the Assembly.
"I don't know who hurled the sandal but it was unfortunate," he said.

Zulfiqar Mirza resigns, blasts MQM
Addressing a crowded press conference at the Karachi Press Club, he expressed serious reservations on
the policy of government about the law and order situation in Karachi.
He said he would continue to work as an ordinary party worker. He harshly criticized Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik and termed him a compulsive liar and a threat to Pakistan’s security.
He said he had already told his party leadership that Malik could not be relied upon. He said that only one person is responsible for all killings in Karachi and that person is Rehman Malik.
Mirza leveled serious allegations on Muttahida Quami Movement and its chief Altaf Hussain. He termed the MQM and its head responsible for target killings in Karachi. He accused the Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad of patronizing target killers.
He revealed that the police department was highly corrupt and that police stations in Karachi are being auctioned to the highest bidders.
Zulfiqar Mirza alleged that during a meeting in London MQM chief Altaf Hussain had told him that America and world powers had decided to break up Pakistan and he (Altaf Hussain) had supported their idea.
He claimed that Altaf Hussain had demanded disbanding of ISI. He further alleged that MQM was patronizing killers and criminals. He also claimed that journalist Wali Khan Baber was also killed by the MQM.
He said he was sorry for his earlier comments for the people who had migrated from India. He said he respects Urdu speaking people and that many of his close relatives are also Urdu speaking.
He said that those people who want to breakup Pakistan are pitiful. He hoped that the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry would summon him in the hearing of the case regarding Karachi target killings.
Zulfiqar Mirza said that he would remain a loyal worker of the PPP. He said if something happened to him those behind the Karachi killings and those behind the murder of Dr Imran Farooq would be responsible for it. He said that he would spend the rest of his life fighting for the rights of the oppressed people of Sindh.
